Proposal: Following a review of a proposal entitled, " Reform of the University APT Committee Procedures (11-12-03)", the Faculty Affairs Committee recommended that a joint task force be formed between the Office of the Provost and the University Senate. This joint task force would conduct a broad review of the University of Maryland Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure. This task force should be composed of tenured/tenure-track
faculty who reflect the variety of levels, disciplines, and roles on our campus. It should be charged with reviewing the University's existing procedures, as well as those of our peers, and advising on whether changes should be made.

Actions: 12/10/13: Chair Hatfield was scheduled to present an update to the Senate at the December 10, 2013 meeting. However, the meeting was canceled due to weather that closed the University. The presentation was postponed to the February 5, 2014 Senate Meeting. The deadline for the task force's report was also postponed to March 5, 2014.

January 2014: A working group of the task force revised the APT Policy & Procedures document to reflect the proposed recommendations of the various subcommittees.

February 5, 2014: Chair Hatfield will present the guiding principles and major actions that the task force is considering.
