Marvin Breslow is the Parliamentarian and a former Chair of the University Senate. Coming to the University of Maryland in 1962 with an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska and graduate degrees from Harvard University, Dr. Breslow has shared his erudition and fascination with Tudor and Stuart England with two generations of students. Dr. Breslow has been an exemplary faculty member in the History Department for 38 years and, after his retirement in 2000, he was awarded the title of Emeritus. He has chaired a number of important University and Senate committees, including those on Admissions, General Education, and Honors, where he always worked to advance academic excellence. He has served as the University's representative on advisory boards for the Folger Shakespeare Library, the University System, and the State of Maryland. The character of these experiences qualifies him to be both institutional historian and parliamentarian to the Senate. It is our expectation that he will advise Senate Chairs and Senate Executive Committees with wit and wisdom for many years to come.
