Statement by Senate Chair Lanford
As Chair of the University Senate, I congratulate the Board of Regents on their outstanding choice of Dean Darryll Pines as the next President of the University of Maryland, College Park. As a seasoned and highly effective leader of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, Dean Pines brings to the Presidency a deep understanding of our strengths, our challenges, and our resilience. During his time as Dean, he has shown a strong commitment to diversity, leveraged opportunities for collaborative research, and demonstrated the impact of philanthropy on the student experience. I am excited to see where Dean Pines will take the University as we move forward into the future.
I am also looking forward to continuing to grow the strong relationship that the Senate has built with President Loh. I have known and worked with Dean Pines over the past decade, and I am confident that he will engage with the University Senate in a positive, productive, and inclusive manner. On behalf of the Senate leadership and the University Senate as a whole, I offer Dean Pines our best wishes for a smooth transition and successful Presidency.
