Proposal: The Staff Affairs Committee is responsible for conducting an election every other year to secure at least three full-time representatives and up to three alternate representatives from the University of Maryland to serve on the Council of University System Staff (CUSS).

The mission of CUSS is to provide a voice for staff in decisions that affect the welfare of the USM, its constituent institutions, and its employees who are not covered by collective bargaining. CUSS functions in an informed advisory role in administrative areas and in the functional support aspects of academic matters.

Staff who are eligible to run and vote for membership include:
-"Excluded" exempt and non-exempt staff who are NOT in a collective bargaining unit
-Contingent II staff

On February 4, 2014, the Senate Office sent announcements to the campus community and all eligible staff members regarding the candidacy and election period. Seven candidates volunteered to run in the election. The elections ran from March 4, 2014 to March 14, 2014. Three candidates were elected as full-time representatives and three candidates were elected as alternate representatives.

Elected CUSS representatives will serve a two-year term starting on August 1, 2014.

The Staff Affairs Committee voted to send a memo detailing the election results to the SEC for Senate consideration.
