Senate Bill 10-11-03

Bill ID: 10-11-03
Name: Human Relations Code Changes
Proposed: 04/30/2010
Sponsor: Human Relations Committeee
Proposal: The 2009-2010 HR Committee's recommendations that the name of the Senate Human Relations Committee be changed to the Senate Committee on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and that the name of the Human Relations Code be changed to the Code on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, were approved by the University Senate and the President in March 2010.

Subsequently, the President's Legal Office contacted the Senate Office when making changes to the Human Relations Code pursuant to approved resolutions of the University Senate (Senate Doc #09-10-12). The Legal Office noticed that there were several references to a "Human Relations Grievance Committee" and to overall "human relations" issues in the current version of the Code. The Legal Office asked whether any further changes should be made to the Code.

Decision Date: 2010-05-07
Decision: The committee voted to forward its recommendations to the SEC for consideration.
Actions: The committee met on Friday, May 7, 2010, to review the Code and determine which changes should be made based on recommendations from the Legal Office after the approval of Senate Doc. 09-10-12. The committee identified areas to change and voted to approve these recommendations. The recommended changes were sent to the Legal Office for review; the changes were found to be nonsubstantive and technical in nature. The overall goal of the editorial changes is to help keep the document aligned with the recent change to its name and the change to the name of the Office of Human Relations Programs to the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
