Senate Bill 24-25-28

Bill ID: 24-25-28
PCC ID: 24042
Name: PCC Proposal to Rename the Bachelor of Science in "Family Science" to "Family Health"
Proposed: 01/31/2025
Sponsor: School of Public Health
Proposal: The Department of Family Science is requesting a change in the current degree name, Bachelor of Science in Family Science, to a Bachelor of Science in Family Health. This request comes after discussing the major name change with current undergraduate students and recent graduates, all of whom are supportive of this change. We have had a significant reduction in FMSC majors, which is attributed in large part to the addition of the Public Health Science degree program that is also offered in the School of Public Health. In Spring 2012, the FMSC student population totaled 410 students. By 2022, we had 187 students, a 54% decline that has been rapid since the PHSC program began accepting students into its College Park-based program.
