The University of Maryland (UMD) is preparing for its upcoming accreditation review, which will assess how effectively past issues have been addressed. One concern raised during the last review was the absence of a formal process for reviewing older policies to ensure their relevance and currency. To address this, a special committee is proposed to begin this review. While a long-term solution would require consideration by the Plan of Organization Committee (PORC), this special committee will start the process and assess the need for a permanent committee.
The committee will consist of six faculty members, one staff member, one undergraduate student, one graduate student, and ex-officio members from the President’s Office and Libraries. The Senate Leadership Team will nominate a slate for Senate Executive Committee (SEC) approval. The committee will review UMD policies, identify those needing updates or elimination, and deliver a preliminary report to the SEC by February 28, 2025, with a final report to the Senate by April 30, 2025. The committee will also advise on the need for a standing committee for ongoing policy reviews. The SEC may modify the committee’s charges or deadlines as needed. |
