Proposal: | According to the Senate Bylaws, by no later than the scheduled December meeting of the Senate, the Committee on Committees shall present to the Senate at least eight nominees from among outgoing Senate members to serve on the Nominations Committee. The nominees shall include four faculty members, one exempt staff member, one non-exempt staff member, one graduate student, and one undergraduate student. The Senate, as a body, shall elect four faculty members, one exempt staff member, one nonexempt staff member, one graduate student, and one undergraduate to serve as the Nominations Committee. The Chair-elect of the Senate shall serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee shall elect its own Chair. The Nominations Committee shall solicit nominations from the membership of the Senate and shall present to the Chair of the Senate by April 1: (1) A slate of at least two candidates per seat from each constituency for elected membership on the Executive Committee, including those incumbent elected members who are eligible and willing to stand for reelection, (2) Slates of candidates to replace the outgoing members of the Committee on Committees and such other committees as required by these Bylaws, including at least one nominee for each position to be filled, and (3) A minimum of two candidates for the office of Chair-Elect. Before reporting to the Chair of the Senate, the nominating committee shall secure the consent of all nominees in writing. The Senate Nominations Committee will also solicit candidates for other Senate-elected Committees and Councils for election, as necessary and appropriate. A brief statement of each candidate's qualifications shall be sent to the voting membership of the incoming Senate a minimum of twenty calendar days before the Transitional Meeting of the Senate. Any further nominations made by members of the Senate and accompanied by a brief supporting statement and the consent of the candidate must be received by the Executive Secretary and Director of the Senate at least twelve working days before the Transitional Meeting. These additional nominations shall be mailed to the membership of the incoming Senate at least ten working days before the Transitional Meeting. |
