Decision: | The Senate voted to approve the revised Suspension policy. |
Actions: | On March 6, 2019, the Senate approved the recommendations from the Faculty Affairs Committee, which included a recommendation to revise the University of Maryland Policy on Suspension of Faculty to align that policy with a newly revised Policy and Procedures Concerning Scholarly Misconduct. However, due to a clerical error, the version of the report sent to the Senate did not include the proposed revisions to the Policy on Suspension of Faculty. Actions: | The Faculty Affairs Committee's Research Misconduct Working Group continued to refine its proposed revisions to the interim policy in summer 2018. The chair of the committee presented to the Senate on November 14, 2018, on the interim policy and the preliminary directions of the committee, to gather feedback from the Senate. The chair and coordinators solicited feedback from representatives of the Conflict of Interest Committee and the Intellectual Property Committees, and shared its proposed revisions with the Research Council. At its meeting on January 30, 2019, the committee agreed on a series of administrative recommendations, and made further adjustments to the interim policy based on stakeholder feedback. At its meeting on February 13, 2019, the committee agreed to recommend revisions that would align procedures in the University of Maryland Policy on Suspension of Faculty with the proposed changes to the interim policy. Decision: | The Faculty Affairs Committee decided to submit a request for an extension. |
Actions: | The Faculty Affairs Committee created a Research Misconduct Working Group in January 2018 to begin addressing the charge. The Working Group included representation from the Faculty Affairs Committee, the Research Council, and the Division of Research. The Working Group met consistently through the spring 2018 semester and continued work during summer 2018. The Working Group reviewed peer institution policies and consulted with the Office of General Counsel, the Research Council, and the Vice President for Research. The Working Group gave updates to the Faculty Affairs Committee throughout its review. Due to the complexity of the review, the Faculty Affairs Committee was unable to meet its deadline and determined that an extension would be needed. |
