Senate Bill 15-16-27
Bill ID: | 15-16-27 |
PCC ID: | 15047 |
Name: | PCC Proposal to Establish a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy |
Proposed: | 03/21/2016 |
Sponsor: | PCC Committee |
Proposal: | The School of Public Policy proposes to offer a new Bachelor of Arts degree program in Public Policy. The most difficult and intractable problems of our time-poverty, access to quality education, unemployment, security, health care, and climate change-require sound public policy solutions. This program will equip students with competence in analytical skills, supported by theory and data, to prepare them for careers related to public service and policy-making in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. The major will have two distinctive components: 1) core foundational skills critical for the analysis of policy problems and solutions; and 2) the application of these skills and competencies to address challenges in the real world by engaging with the policy process at local, state, national, and global levels. The Public Policy program will be interdisciplinary, integrating topics and coursework from business, philosophy, history, information studies, economics, sociology, and government and politics. |
