Senate Bill 15-16-18
Bill ID: | 15-16-18 |
Name: | Modify the Membership of the Information Technology Council to include a Representative of the University Libraries |
Proposed: | 12/16/2015 |
Sponsor: | Gary White, Faculty |
Proposal: | There is a movement to add a member of the Division of Information Technology to the University Library Council. It is imperative that the Libraries and IT work collaboratively through a range of information technologies as there are mutual issues that both units are addressing in how to best support delivery of quality instruction and the support of research/research programs. Therefore, in addition to having an IT representative on the University Libraries Council, it will likewise be beneficial to having a member from the Libraries as a representative on the Information Technology Council. This representative will help ensure that both the Libraries and IT will work together to effectively address broad issues of technical feasibility, integration of services, fostering synergy between information technology groups across campus, and other issues as part of the Information Technology Council's mandate to provide guidance on these issues to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). In addition, a Libraries representative is important as the IT council addresses broad issues including cybersecurity, IT efficiencies, and enterprise systems and these same issues pertain to the Libraries as they address university-wide issues around supporting research and teaching. The representative of the University Libraries would be ex-officio. The representative would be appointed by the Dean of University Libraries. |
