Senate Bill 15-16-05

Bill ID: 15-16-05
Name: Modify the Membership of the University Library Council to Include a Representative of the Division of Information Technology
Proposed: 08/26/2015
Sponsor: Elizabeth Beise
Proposal: The role of technology in academics and research, in courses, in services to students, staff, and faculty, has become ubiquitous. IT resources are an integral part of almost every aspect of delivery of quality instruction and support of strong research programs and have become a core component of resources provided by the Libraries. Advice on the services, infrastructure, and opportunities provided by the Libraries is a core mission of the University Library Council. Currently, there is no standing representative of the Division of Information Technology on the Library Council. It would be beneficial to have someone at the table who can address issues of technical feasibility, integration of services, or other implementation issues as part of the Library Council's mandate to provide sound advice on policy issues to the Dean of the Libraries and to the Provost.

The representative of the Division of IT would be ex-officio, as are the representatives of the Provost's office and of the Dean of the Libraries, and the Chair-elect of the Senate. The IT representative would be appointed by the Chief Information Officer.
