Received: 2015-04-24
Decision Date: 2015-05-04
Decision: The ERG Committee agreed to submit a memo to the SEC.
Actions: At its meeting on April 24, 2015, the ERG Committee reviewed the recently-approved University of Maryland Plan of Organization for Shared Governance and considered the changes related to Article 11 on Plans of Organization of Units. The ERG Committee found that the revisions to Article 11 omit language requiring the existence of Faculty Advisory Councils for Colleges and Schools, but retain language that implies that such Councils must exist. After consultation with the Senate Parliamentarian, the committee determined that this omission was unintentional, and agreed that it should continue to require that Faculty Advisory Councils exist for Colleges and Schools. The ERG Committee voted in favor of sending a memo to the Executive Committee to explain the omission and its recommended course of action, so that the Senate record can reflect the procedure agreed to by the committee.
