Senate Bill 10-11-15

Bill ID: 10-11-15
Name: Proposal to Amend the Membership of the University APT Committee
Proposed: 09/10/2010
Sponsor: Juan Uriagereka, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs
Proposal: The integration of the College of Chemical and Life Sciences (CLFS) and the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CMPS) requires an adjustment to the composition of the third or campus-level committee in the Appointments, Promotion & Tenure (APT) process. University policy specifies the makeup of this committee (Section C-Page 25) and also that any revision to this composition need to be reviewed and endorsed by the University Senate (Page 1).
In the aforementioned policy, the campus-level APT committee is presently staffed with nine members, one each from the eight "large colleges" (AGNR, ARHU, BMGT, BSOS, CLFS, CMPS, EDUC and ENGR), plus one rotating member from the five "small colleges" (ARCH, PUAF, CLIS, JOUR and SPHL). The present proposal aims to keep the present policy as it stands, with minimal modifications to reflect the present situation arising from the college integration, and to keep the number of campus level APT committee members constant. The ideal way to achieve these results is to accept the existing integrated entity as a single college and to upgrade the largest among the "small colleges" into the list of "large colleges".
Therefore, it is proposed to amend the existing policy as follows:

(i) To have a single representative on the University level APT committee for the two colleges now integrated into one, College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS).

(ii) To have a permanent member from SPHL, a rapidly growing college.
