Reviewer: Committee on Committees
Received: 2010-05-07
Decision Date: 2010-07-27
Decision: The SEC voted to place this item on the 09/16/2010 Senate agenda
Actions: The Committee on Committees met on May 14, 2010, and on May 21, 2010. At its first meeting, the committee utilized an online program in order to assist with the placement of the volunteers. The committee members were able to review the submitted volunteer statements on a projected screen. The committee began by focusing on the student vacancies on standing committees. By using the online program, the members were able to see what each committee would look like if certain volunteers were placed on a committee. The committee members used the student volunteers' top three choices from the preference form to place them onto respective committees. By viewing committee continuing membership, the members were able to consider the diversity of college/department composition as well as diversity of gender, ethnicity, position, etc., while populating the committees. Committee members were assigned responsibilities for further recruitment as needed. At the second meeting on May 21, 2010, the committee followed the same process for filling the faculty and staff vacancies. The Senate Office provided the committee members with spreadsheets detailing the placements made. The 2010-2011 Committee on Committees voted to approve the final slate on July 27, 2010.
Next Step: SEC Review
