| Proposal: | When the Plan of Organization Review Committee (PORC) was convened, it was informed that the University of Maryland Libraries considered the Librarian I title to be similar to a PTK faculty title. Recent changes within the Libraries led to changes in the use of the title; the University Policy on Appointment, Promotion, and Permanent Status of Library Faculty (II-1.00[B]) indicates that the Librarian I title is a permanent status track faculty (similar to tenure-track status) title. Since the University's Plan is in conflict with current practice and policy, the Senate should assess the appropriate status of Librarian I faculty for the purposes of Senate representation. |

| Actions: | At its meeting on September 3, 2019, the committee reviewed policies identified in its charge, learned of prior and current uses of the Librarian I title, and consulted with the Senate's Executive Secretary and Director. After discussion, the committee voted unanimously to recommend that for purposes of Senate representation, Librarian I faculty should be included in the Senate constituency for tenured/tenure-track and permanent status/permanent-status track faculty. It also recommended that title usage be considered when the University Plan of Organization is next reviewed. |
