Senate Bill 13-14-21

Bill ID: 13-14-21
PCC ID: 13030
Name: PCC Proposal to Establish a Master of Science in Accounting
Proposed: 12/06/2013
Sponsor: PCC Committee
Proposal: The Robert H Smith School of Business (School) proposes launching a Master of Science in Accounting (MS in Acc) program designed to provide students with an understanding of accounting principles and techniques. The program will offer a vehicle for students to complete the 30 credits beyond the baccalaureate degree to qualify for the CPA examination in most states. The school currently offers a Master's of Science in Business and Management with a concentration in Accounting. Unfortunately, there is no distinction between the concentrations on the diplomas or transcripts and we are limited in our ability to treat the programs differently. The creation of this formal degree program will provide us with an
opportunity to better reflect the degree being earned and provide us with the ability to align our
administrative activities with the market demands.
