Senate Bill 11-12-25

Bill ID: 11-12-25
PCC ID: 11023
Name: PCC Proposal to Change the Name of the PhD in Public and Community Health to Behavioral and Community Health
Proposed: 01/18/2012
Sponsor: PCC Committee
Proposal: Our department name was officially changed in the Fall of 2010 and we became the Department of Behavioral and Community Health to more appropriately reflect our discipline within the field of public health. In addition, to meet the council on Education in Public Health (the accrediting body for Schools of Public Health) requirements of departmental discipline clarity, it was not appropriate to have a generic department name such as the Department of Public and Community Health that was so similar to the name of our school (the School of Public Health).

We currently offer a PhD in Public and Community Health (our old department name) and would like to change it to a PhD in Behavioral and Community Health to reflect our new discipline specific department name.
