Senate Bill 10-11-58
Bill ID: | 10-11-58 |
Name: | Proposal for a Revised Campus Policy on Smoking |
Proposed: | 05/01/2011 |
Sponsor: | David W. Inouye, Professor, Department of Biology, CMNS |
Proposal: | I would like to see the University of Maryland adopt a policy that prohibits smoking of tobacco on campus. The current policy does not prevent involuntary contact with second-hand smoke, as smokers continue to smoke near building entrances, often ignoring the current policy. A complete ban on smoking on campus would have health benefits for all members of campus, might lower insurance rates, would create a cleaner campus, and put the campus closer to the forefront of policies already adopted by many other campuses around the country. |
