Institution-Wide Referendum

The University of Maryland Plan of Organization is the guiding document for shared governance at the University. It states that a review of the current Plan be undertaken at least every ten years by a committee composed of members elected by the Senate. In October 2013, the Plan of Organization Review Committee (PORC) was charged with conducting a thorough review of the University's Plan. An overview of PORC's review process and the committee's final report summarizing its recommendations can be found on the Senate Legislation Page. The revised Plan presented by PORC was approved by the University Senate on February 11, 2015.

Any proposed revisions to the Plan must be submitted to an institution-wide referendum. Passage of revisions on an institution-wide referendum require a majority of the votes cast within each of two of three major constituencies (faculty, staff, and students). Every member of the campus community is asked to review the revised Plan and vote on whether to approve it. Final approval of the revised Plan lies with the President of the University.

The Senate Office is currently conducting an institution-wide referendum on the revised University of Maryland Plan of Organization. The referendum will be held from Monday, February 16th until midnight on Friday, February 27th. All members of the campus community are encouraged to participate in this referendum.
