CUSS Elections

VOTING IS NOW OPEN: Council of University System Staff

The election period for the Council of University System Staff (CUSS) is now open (March 3, 2014 - March 14, 2014)!

CUSS consists of staff representatives from the 13 University System of Maryland (USM) institutions and is charged with advising the Chancellor and the Board of Regents on a variety of matters.

The mission of CUSS is to provide a voice for staff in decisions that affect the welfare of the USM, its constituent institutions, and its employees who are not covered by collective bargaining. CUSS functions in an informed advisory role in administrative areas and in the functional support aspects of academic matters.

Staff who are eligible vote for membership include:

  • "Excluded" exempt and non-exempt staff who are NOT in a collective bargaining unit
  • Contingent II staff employees

CUSS representatives will serve a two-year term starting on August 1, 2014. The University must elect three full-time delegates and at least one alternate member (with a maximum of three alternate members).

CUSS meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, rotating from campus to campus.  CUSS Reps have the opportunity to visit our unique institutions, and get a glimpse into how each contributes to USM's reputation for excellence and diverse academic environments.

To vote, you must be either an excluded exempt or non-exempt staff member who is NOT in a collective bargaining unit, or a Contingent II staff member. You will receive a ballot via email from the Senate. If you do not receive a ballot, please contact
